“How do we stay up to date with all the channel news that comes out?” was a question that had been ringing through the Purechannels office for many years, mainly from our client services guys.
It was an interesting point so we looked at all the emails we all received – there were a lot! So I thought ‘wouldn’t it be good if we could just access all this from one place!’ We are a marketing agency so completely independent to any publication, media outlet or news source, so we set about trying to pull everything together. We created a space where we could see and search all channel news from around the world, on one dashboard and we started using it for a few months.
And then guess what… COVID kicked in, we all went home and were locked down. But then I thought ‘if it works for us, and our news, then maybe it would be of use to other channel people – especially whilst working remotely, it could be a great way for people to stay in touch and up to date with channel news when it happens. Even if you miss something, you can filter and search as you wish. So we did some thinking, built it up a bit, gave it a name and some colour, worked on the UI and launched the first edition of ‘Nuzoo’.
… the idea behind the name for those who are interested is basically that we have created a ‘news-zoo’. A zoo gathers together animals from all over the world and puts them in one single place for people to come and view? Nuzoo, does the same, but with channel news. We gather together channel news from all around the world, and put it all in one place for you to view. Imagine how long it would take to travel round the world looking at all the animals you see in a zoo! Same principle applies to Nuzoo, rather than go looking or sifting through all the channel emails, we collect them all in, and put them in one place for you.
Launched at the end of March, we have had thousands of people visit the site and it’s becoming a bigger and better thing. So, we’ve made some updates to the dashboard to improve the overall experience for existing and future users.
Of course all the current features are still available. If you don’t want to register you can just see the news as it is and search through it at your leisure. If however you choose to register your details you get a few more perks like better filtering and searching to choose the news you want to see, you can add your own RSS feeds to keep an eye on, you’ll see Nuzoo Recommends for special content and you’re able to refer friends and colleagues so they can share the experience.
So let’s see what happens, the intention is that Nuzoo can continue to provide a great place where all channel news can be gathered together in one location for you to access it… plus a few new cool things we are thinking about.
Watch this little promo video and be sure to bookmark and visit www.nuzoo.news.

2020.10.21 10:00 autotldr Large 2,000-year-old cat discovered in Peruand#x27

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 32%. (I'm a bot)
EPA. The figure of a relaxing cat has been discovered in the Nazca desert in Peru.
The Nazca lines, a Unesco World Heritage site, is home to designs on the ground - known as geoglyphs - created some 2,000 years ago.
Scientists believe the cat, as with other Nazca animal figures, was created by making depressions in the desert floor, leaving coloured earth exposed.
The cat then went unnoticed until plans were recently drawn up for a new path leading to an observation platform.
Johny Isla, Peru's chief archaeologist for the Nazca lines, told Efe news agency that the cat pre-dates the Nazca culture - which created most of the figures from 200 to 700 AD. The cat, he said, was actually from the late Paracas era, which was from 500 BC to 200 AD. "We know that from comparing iconographies," he said.
"Paracas textiles, for example, show birds, cats and people that are easily comparable to these geoglyphs."

2020.10.21 08:44 krazykatdude88 Young woman I support recently diagnosed with SMS

Hello friends,
I am currently working with a 23 year old woman who has within the last year been diagnosed with Smith-Magenis Syndrome. Prior to this new diagnosis, her doctors assumed she had Prader-Willi syndrome.
When she lived at the group home I was coordinating, we had many resources available through the agency but now that she is living back at home with her parents, those resources are no longer available. We had met many times with behavioral support specialists and OT when she first got diagnosis.
To date, she has been unwilling to research SMS on her own, but after talking to her further and looking online myself, it seems the reason is because there is quite a bit of information about how to raise a child/ caregive to a person who has SMS but not much information on how to be an ADULT person LIVING with SMS aside from "here's some people who are like you, represented in paragraph blurbs."
She has a high school reading/comprehension level. She loves to research medical things. I would love to help her explore what this new diagnosis means to her life, and how much of the frustration she feels in the day to day is related to SMS-- from there I'd like to work with her particularly in identifying situations that can lead to power struggles and explosive behavior, and how to mitigate then.
Does anyone know of any good resources for adults with SMS? Please send them my way!
TL;DR:
I support an adult who has a recent diagnosis of Smith-Magenis Syndrome, looking for materials developed for the person who has SMS and is an adult, not info for how to caregive to a child.
Thanks in advance!

2020.10.21 04:46 neopdx Shipping Firearms with FedEx

I need some help from the community. I purchased a firearm online and it was shipped to a local FFL dealer using FedEx. It has been 4 weeks from the delivery date and according to the FFL, the firearm has not arrived. I checked the tracking number everyday and everyday it showed the firearm is at FedEx facility. I have contacted the seller and they told me the firearm is at FedEx facility and the FFL dealer would need to pick it up. Then I contacted the FFL dealer and they told me the seller needs to call FedEx to release the firearm to the FFL dealer. Depends who I talk to at the FFL dealer, someday they said that FedEx will not release the firearm to them and someday they said FedEx refuses to delivery the firearm to the store. This has been going on for the last couple of weeks. FedEx customer service is a joke. Every time I call, I get the same response that the tracing team is working on it.
Are there some government agencies such as the ATF can help me get my firearm from FedEx?
Thanks in advance.

2020.10.21 04:46 AlienRouge did this short animation from S11E06 stand out to anyone else?

Somehow the animation team has upped Archer’s game again. I totally agree with Aisha Tyler in this season 10 featurette when she says there are no shows that look as good as Archer.
One brief, specific moment from The Double Date really stuck out to me: when Lana angrily crunched an ice cube at dinner and turns her head. It’s a close up.
Where have we seen similar animation? The head turning reminded me of when Pam and Cheryl/Carol are spinning in their spinny chairs at The Figgis Agency. It’s so seamless and mesmerizing. I can’t put my finger on it.
Second: when Lana bares her teeth to chomp down on ice. Has any character displayed their teeth before? It happened again later that episode, after Archer puts on a southern accent to throw the Russian target off their scent (lol) and him and Lana give this weird sort of sheepish, toothy smile. I think it’s the first time we see either of them make that expression. In any event, it was cool.
What other moments stuck out to you guys?

2020.10.21 04:44 Aurreum I just wanna get this out there

Moderate term lurker. Don't think I've seen a post here that didn't resonate with me to some degree. I figure I figure confession is good for the soul and this sub is a resource and a community I could use about now. Buckle up, it'll be a long one.

I (M23) broke up with my girlfriend (F23) over text about two months ago after a 5 year relationship. We started going out just after high school. We were the only people each other had dated. She was there for me and pressed me into overcoming various anxieties and supported me in a way no one else had to that point. I didn't finish high school (on a technicality I have a diploma) but she got me to enroll in a community college. She got me to try again.

Over the course of the relationship my current recollection is that I was pretty closed off: she tried getting me to sing and dance with her (activities she enjoyed) but I shunned it. Honestly, I was emotionally distant, using humor to deflect how I felt constantly. Our communication in a daily sort of sense was tiresome by my memory. We had different ways of communicating and interpreting each other.

She had anxiety and depression issues as well. I think she needed someone who could be emotionally there for her when she was having a panic attack or other such thing. I didn’t know how to respond. I always wanted her to try and push forward and get better. I saw the progress that I had made and wanted the same for her. I would tell her she should see someone. She would tell me that she had made progress but that I couldn’t see it. I wanted to be a better boyfriend, a better person. I could envision it constantly, the man I wanted to be.

The pandemic hit. I was stressed. She was stressed. I was going to transfer to a major university and we hadn’t worked out the logistics of that. It wasn’t very far away but still a pain for either one of us. I sat down with her father-in-law who expressed to me a concern that she wouldn’t be able to move out or get a job or be happy following her own college graduation at the end of the year. That night when we saw each other she was feeling down and I sort of cracked: I said I was concerned for her and that I couldn’t be with someone who can’t help themselves. It was a shitty night for me, all things considered.

The next few months went by on a slow decline: she stopped all physical intimacy. Our anniversary came and went. Finally, on a night when I was frustrated again in August, I texted her that it seemed our paths had diverged. I wish I could have at least done it in person, but if I didn’t do it then, I’m not sure it would have happened.

The next few weeks were hard. I missed her. About a month later I had coffee with her step-father again (we did have a good rapport). He told me she was actually doing quite well and it probably wasn’t a good fit anyway and (weirdly enough) that we should have been having more sex anyway. I came away honestly feeling liberated from that last encounter. I had a good narrative: it wasn’t going to work out anyway and I was somewhat vindicated and I was well to wash my hands of the family (her step-father always had kind of an… unconventional relationship with my GF’s mom- but that’s a whole story unto itself). At some point I sent off a text (violating no contact, I know) to my now ex-GF apologizing for the manner in which I broke up with her.

I moved to college. I felt amazing. I met so many people and the opportunities abounded. I felt in my element in a way I hadn’t before. My parents were so proud and bombastic about me. My sister told all her friends and coworkers how smart I was and how I would do so well. I got a flu shot on my own despite a really, really big fear of needles. I bought a bottle of whiskey (to cook with) despite having anxieties about buying or drinking alcohol. I was actively nice and outgoing to everyone I met despite being pretty introverted normally. My thoughts did drift to her occasionally. I knew I had to forget her, or at least leave her mentally behind. I realized some sage advice along the way that I don’t believe I’ve seen on this sub before: don’t get off to pictures of your ex. It’s not helping you recover. It’s keeping them in your memory. It didn’t help that I found her insanely attractive and pretty much exclusively got off to her over the last 5 years.

Following from above, there was a ton, an absolute fuckton, of “deprogramming” I knew I’d have to engage in: I had spent so long with her that I thought of her and her alone when topics like her favorite game series came up, or tattoos, or chihuahuas, or the entirety of the state of Florida came up. That kind of stuff. I knew it would be an ongoing process and maybe one that was never fully finished.

Then October 4th came. I woke up to a text from her. Why I hadn’t blocked her, I can’t say… guess I was just bad. She said she accepted my apology for the way in which I broke up with her and asked how I was doing. And then we started texting. Nothing serious I thought. I could tell by her responses, her tone, that she wanted to keep it civil and cool, if friendly. She had previously stated that she would be okay with us getting back together “in 5 or 10 years” if “we were friends and it happened again”. I started to realize over the following days what with our very light, cordial texting, that I was making all these self-improvement steps because I assumed that it would lead me back to her. I figured that what with the pandemic that I could go away and come back a better person and because we loved each other (and admittedly still did) that she would accept me back and I would be the man that I had secretly yearned to be through the years.

Saturday, October 17th came around. A few days ago from this posting. I was bold that night. I had been telling her over the past two weeks of the steps I had made. I was kinda virtue signaling. I told her that night that I may just be okay with getting a drink with her at some point- it was a massive step for me, one I was sure would win her over. She said that she might consider it “in the distant future as friends”. I asked if we were friends. She told me she wasn’t sure we could go to being friends so soon and that besides she was casually seeing someone.

That hit me like a truck. I was always very possessive of her, and her of me, and there had been a lot of rhetoric in our relationship about spending our lives together. I told her I would marry her. Yes, I violated that oath in words and deeds, but it wasn’t until then that I felt it.

I said I would like to talk to her- on the phone this time, as I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. So we talked. I cried. She had spent the time recovering. Truly recovering. She found someone sweet and yeah I just had to deal with that. She made it clear she wasn’t taking me back but that she did, in fact, love me and that, again, maybe we could be friends in the future, and yes, that would mean seeing and accepting knowing that we are with other people. To my credit in the conversation, I did not beg her to take me back as I did in subsequent dreams of her. I knew what she was saying was right. I knew the path that I had to take to go forward. It would be hard, but I knew it. I only had her tell me, half-heartedly, that there was no future for us going forward. I know she didn’t personally believe it but I knew that I needed to hear it. Now I realize there’s no point: I know what she thinks. I wished her the best, and told that even though I didn’t feel it, someday I would. She wished me the best, and she meant it.
I was, and am, depressed. I called my father to come to me that night and take a long walk together, as we so often did. While he was driving over to me, I cried in front of my best friend on Discord (which was, to be fair, a huge personal growth step for me). I have an amazing support structure. By the time my dad arrived, I was more leveled headed. We talked. I told him what had happened. We walked.

The next evening, I felt a burst of inspiration. I knew there would be ups and downs on the path forward, but nobody ever tells you how spontaneous, and how fleeting, they sometimes are. Like little micro oscillations of mood that one cannot predict. I reached out on a high, and texted her something I do not regret:
“I’m super sorry to break no contact but while I feel it, while I’m internalizing it, I needed to let you know that I’m super happy for you and I genuinely wish the best for your life and I hope you find happiness, true happiness. You’ve been such a profound impact on my life all for the better and I’m lucky to have known you. Goodbye [GF]”
I blocked her number but not before she could reply that she wished that same and again was here to support me and that she wasn’t “going to say goodbye, but rather [she] hope[s] to see [me] later”. I had tried to think of her as dead. I couldn’t at the time and still now abide or fathom just being her friend (though maybe I will in time learn what that means) and her keeping the window open for me hurt worse.
I’m still finding that I have intrusive ideations of our future together. I’m still planning on becoming the best person I can be because that’s what I think she deserves not because it’s what I have wanted all along.

I don’t plan on contacting her anymore, unless I do find it within myself to be okay with her dating and even marrying someone else. Right now the sheer thought of another human touching her or being romantic with her makes me have a lot of anxiety.

But I consider it a challenge: I’ve overcome stuff before. Sure, this is the most hurt I’ve been in my life to my knowledge. But I’m choosing to write my narrative like this: I was a person upon whom the onus of responsibility for the fall of my relationship rests. I did not do what I could and it can and has been mentally debated by me that the only way I could make such progress forward was upon the dissolution of my relationship. In that way I was somewhat fated to fall. Its kinda poetic now, like a Greek myth or something. The future is now in my hands and I ascribe virtually all agency to recover to myself. The flip side of such an individualistic writing is that, should I fail to recover, I will blame myself and myself alone.

And that’s what this is all about: relationships, break ups, the whole community herein- it’s all a story we tell ourselves. Best we know how to control it, make it work for us.

And if you’ve made it this far in the ramblings of an internet stranger all I have to give you are my commendations and congratulations. Thank you for taking the time to read and to judge and hopefully to learn from Breakups as I know I have. Peace.

2020.10.21 03:50 misalo Is it a waste of time to start applying for jobs I wouldn’t be able to take for months?

Long story short is that I have struggled to find a job since graduating as a result of the pandemic. After finding nothing, I settled for a job I found through a temp agency working in a packaging distribution center for low pay. The company I have been working at liked me enough to offer to buy me out of my contract with the temp agency to make me a full time employee of their own. The problem is, it’s still less than ideal pay and has nothing to do with my background. I honestly don’t mind the work and am generally happy with it for now, but I just know it isn’t going to lead to a permanent career, it was simply the only opportunity I had and I didn’t want to let it pass.
While It’s only been a few weeks working as a full time employee of the company, I haven’t stopped looking at jobs better suited for my background. I want to start applying, but I also feel like I owe my current company at least a few months of work since they paid for me to be a full time employees of theirs, and I don’t want to screw them over and get up and leave ASAP. So, is it a waste of time to apply to jobs now and ask for a start date a few months from now? How long do you suggest I should stay at this company at a minimum without looking like a jerk for walking a way after the favor they did for me? Any advice helps, thanks!

2020.10.21 03:45 thebroslandreth Royalty Software

Hey friends!
I found a post here that was kind of dated, so wanted to see if I could get some more recent opinions on how you calculate record royalties for your label. I've looked at a bunch of different software options and they all have pros and cons, but none seem to really knock it out of the park. Would love to know what you're using and/or what your experience with various companies have been. I've looked at Label Engine and Eddy so far... Curious about Label Worx and AMPsuite, maybe others out there I haven't heard of?
For clarity's sake, I don't need distro as we work with The Orchard for that. Just need something that can accurately manage contracts, sales (The Orchard, Bandcamp, and a bunch of neighbouring rights collection agencies), expenses, and create statements.
Thanks in advance!

2020.10.21 03:29 LetsRead_YouTube Sister Tadea Benz

Early on Halloween morning of 1981, Sister Tadea Benz was asleep in her bedroom at the St. Francis Convent in Amarillo, Texas. The seventy six year old nun had resided at the convent for most of her life, and it had been many, many years since the Sister made a permanent commitment to God by pronouncing perpetual vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. On an average morning, Sister Tadea would awake at 5am sharp, fetch herself some coffee, and then visit with the convent’s cat, Chloe. At 6:30, she would then walk down to the onsite chapel to attend Morning Prayer according to the Liturgy of the Hours, which was one of Sister Tadea’s most favorite prayers. She believed that although they were divided by continents and time zones, the structure provided by the Liturgy of the Hours was something that helped nuns of all different cultures feel part of the wider network of faith. But on the morning of October 31 st , Sister Angela Martinez, one of Sister Tadea’s closest confidents, noticed that she was not in attendance. This was obviously highly unusual, despite her advanced age, Tadea never failed to miss a single morning service. “I missed her and was concerned because she seldom missed chapel” Sister Angela later said. So at around 7:30am as soon as morning service had finished, a handful of nuns gathered together, and walked over to Sister Tadea’s bedroom in order check up on her. When they arrived, they found that the door to Sister Tadea's convent room was closed. “It was very much unsual that the door was closed”, Sister Angela added, “Because Tadea was hard of hearing and always left her door ajar to hear the morning buzzer”. But when they opened the door, they were completely unprepared for what they found.
On the floor of her bedroom, Sister Tadea lay naked and alone, with her arms outstretched by her sides, and clotting blood surrounding her uncovered head. One of the nuns rushed to revive her, but her body was cold. They checked her pulse, but there was none. Sister Tadea Benz was dead. To all observers, it appeared that Tadea had risen at her usual time, only to take a nasty fall which resulted in a traumatic head injury. It was heartbreakingly unexpected; the Sister had not appeared unwell or weak in the days prior to her death, but the Sister’s took her passing in their stride. Tadea had led a good life, and had dedicated herself to Christ, they had no doubt that she now resided in heaven, at God’s right hand.
Sister Angela was in complete shock, the grief was almost overwhelming, and she could not bring herself to be around her late friend’s body any further. So she enlisted the help of four other nuns, who promptly went about wrapping Sister Tadea’s in a sheet before diligently cleaning up the spots of blood from the otherwise pristine bedroom floor. Once the work was completed, the nuns simply left their deceased sister in peace, and went about planning her funeral arrangements.
But later in the way, a Sister Florantine expressed her desire to visit Tadea’s bedroom, where her body still lay, in order to pay her final respects to her departed sister. And it was while sitting near the body, praying that her soul would be lovingly received by the God she had incessantly worshipped for most of her adult life, that Florantine noticed something that would come to cause shockwaves among the pious community of the Saint Francis convent. One of Tadea’s bedroom windows had been broken. How this went unnoticed by the previous visitors of the room is something of mystery, but there is every chance that since the nuns were so absorbed by their sister’s passing and the morbid sight that greeted their entry that they simply failed to observe such an unusual detail. Whatever the reason, the decision was made to call the Police and inform them of a potential break in.
When deputies from the Amarillo Sheriff’s department arrived at the convent, Sister Tadea’s body has been removed from her bedroom driven to a local funeral home. So their investigation focused solely on the possibility of a break in. It was only when one of the deputies overheard a conversation among the nuns regarding Tadea’s passing that they became aware that a death had occurred. Eager to rule out any foul play, a deputy asked to briefly examine her body, and quickly discovered bruising around the dead nun’s neck. Sister Florantine, like the other nuns who’d discovered her lifeless body, had taken it for granted that Tadea had died a natural death. And the revelation that she had in fact been murdered caused an outpouring of shock and horror among the convent’s occupants. But the truth surrounding her death would only become more horrifying after sheriff’s deputies transported Sister Tadea’s body to a nearby mortician for further examination. A nun being strangled to death in the middle of the night was appalling and disturbing on its own, but the coroner who performed the post mortem on Tadea’s corpse discovered something even more atrocious. Before her life had been snuffed out by what would have to be someone of unspeakable evil, she had been sexually assaulted.
Sister Tadea’s bedroom was officially declared a crime scene, and forensic investigators were called in to gather evidence. They gathered up Tadea’s bed linens and night clothes to analyse them for bodily fluids, and it was during this process that Police discovered a large steak knife that had been hidden under her bed. This had been used to cut away the screen on her window, but it was confirmed that the cause of death were not stab wounds or loss of blood, but asphyxiation by manual strangulation. Police were able to lift fingerprints from the handle of the knife, as well as from the bed’s headboard, which had apparently been used for leverage by the murderer as he assaulted the seventy six year old nun as she slept.
When deputies moved in to question those who lived in the homes neighbouring the convent, they discovered that one or two of the residents, who happened to be awake in the wee small hours of October 31 st , had seen a youngish looking man running away from the convent. The reports of the murderer being somewhat young were corroborated when fingerprint analysis brought back a match, that of a seventeen year old boy named Johnny Frank Garrett, who was already known to Amarillo sheriff’s department given he had previously been a suspect in a burglary case.
Garrett initially denied all charges, but the evidence against him was almost overwhelming. It was gathered by a unit that combined deputies from Potter and Randall counties, as well as Amarillo police. It was the first multi-agency cooperative law enforcement investigation in the history of Amarillo and led to the creation of a flagship Special Crimes Unit. It was discovered that Garrett’s fingerprints were a match to those found at the scene. Amarillo police Sergeant Claude Stephens testified that fingerprints found in the room of the slain nun could “not have been made by any other person” than Garrett. Public hairs taken from Sister Tadea’s bed linens were determined to have the same individual characteristics as Garrett’s. Not only that, but the steak knife found under the nun’s bed was of the same manufacture, design and make as another steak knife recovered from Garrett's home address.
However, Garrett countered that he had not been at the convent in the early hours of Halloween, but had in fact broken in a few days previously with the intention of stealing valuables. He told Police that he had entered the convent, not via Tadea’s bedroom window, but via the front door at around noon. His route took him from the medication room to the cafeteria, which is where he claimed to have picked up the knife. Garret them claimed that he snuck into several of the bedrooms, one of which was Sister Tadea’s, which is where he found her sleeping. He said his fingerprints on the headboard of her bed could be explained by the fact that he used it to lean on whilst reaching across her bed to take an expensive looking cross which was mounted on the wall. After he’d retrieved the cross, he’d heard a noise at the convent, then simply fled, seeking refuge from the law in his mother’s house at around 10pm on October 30 th , where he insisted he had remained until the following morning.
At Garretts’ trial for Sister Tadea’s murder, one of the other Nuns who resided at the Saint Francis convent, testified that his story was impossible. A Sister Bernice Noggler asserted that there was no way Garrett would have been able to enter to convent through its front door, since it was kept locked and only opened for scheduled visitors. Not only that, but given that noontime was one of the cafeteria’s busiest times of the day, there was absolutely no way that Garret could have entered unnoticed, let alone been able to steal a steak knife undetected. She also added that Garrett’s claim of bending a knife whilst prying open a locked drawer was complete nonsense. He broke into a convent, a place where theft was considered a grave sin, so there was no need
for any nun to lock away her belongings, nor did they have anything to hide from each other. Sister Bernice also added that the suggestion of Sister Tadea owning any kind of valuable, gold plated cross was utterly ridiculous. She had taken a vow of poverty, an essential part of becoming a bride of Christ, and actively eschewed such pointless trinkets in favour of true wealth, God’s love. The state prosecutor also called several eye witnesses who lived in the same neighbourhood as Garret’s mother, one of whom said that they had seen Garrett stalking around the property of an elderly neighbour of theirs during a few hours before the time when Sister Tadea was murdered. Another neighbour testified that he had seen Garrett on his own properly at around 11pm on the 30 th of October, again, just a few hours before Tadea’s life was violently snuffed out.
A look into Garrett’s personal history provides many clues as to why he might commit an act of such pure evil. One of the psychologists who interviewed him pending his trial confirmed that he was severely mentally impaired, describing him as chronically psychotic and as having “one of the most virulent histories of abuse and neglect I have encountered in 28 years of practice”. When he was just a boy, Garrett was repeatedly sexually assaulted by his stepfather, who also loaned him out to other child abusers to be used for sexual gratification. From the age of fourteen onwards, he was forced to perform bizarre sexual acts, and even made to participate in the recording of pornographic films in which he starred with much older men. At the age of just ten years old, he was introduced to drugs and alcohol by members of his own family and subsequently developed severe substance abuse problems, which culminated in heavy use of brain- damaging substances such as paint-thinner and amphetamines. Garrett was also regularly physically abused, and on one occasion was picked up and sat upon the burner of a stove, resulting in hideous, permanent scarring to his backside and thighs. The severe physical abuse resulted in some pretty serious head injuries and brain damage, resulting in some shockingly paranoid delusions, including the belief that the lethal injection, Texas’ preferred method of execution at the time, would not actually kill him. Despite such a damning psychological profile, such information was not shared the jury at his trial, who were only presented with the relevant physical evidence and witness testimonies.
Garrett’s trial ended in September of 1982, when a jury found him guilty of first degree murder, and the presiding judge found no difficulty in sentencing him to death. For the next ten years of his life, Garrett was held at Ellis Unit, north of Huntsville, Texas, which at the time held men on the State of Texas's death row. He lead a miserable existence, portrayed as an absolute monster by the media, despite his insistence that he was innocent of the crime he was convicted of. The date of his execution was set to be the 6 th of January 1992, but just before he was scheduled for the lethal injection, there came a unlikely intervention from someone that caused something of a media frenzy around the world. An appeal for clemency came in from none other than the head of the Catholic church, Pope John Paul II.
The Pope contacted the governor of Texas at the time, a woman by the name of Ann Richards, with a deeply convincing argument for mercy. It was his opinion that not only was it in the interest of the Catholic Church to forgive Garrett for his crimes, but it was also against Christ’s teachings to take the lives of any living person, especially as a kind of revenge for a crime, wrath being one of the deadly sins. The Pope also argued that were was a considerable amount of information coming to light which suggested that Garret was actually innocent of the crime he was accused of, and that his pleas were not just those of a guilty man afraid of his own death. In light of the phone call she received, as well as a letter campaign initiated by Catholics around the word, Governor Richards relented and granted Garrett a temporary reprieve.
After Governor Richards's reprieve, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles communed to hold a hearing on whether or not Garrett should receive a commutation to merely life in prison instead of death. The seventeen board members held a simple vote. When the votes were counted, it was found that not a single one of them had chosen to commute Garrett’s sentence, all seventeen believed he was guilty, and should be executed for murdering Sister Tadea. And so, as a result of the failed vote for mercy, Johnny Frank Garrett was finally executed by lethal injection on February the 11 th , 1992, at the age of twenty eight. Local and national news sources discovered that his final meal request was ice cream, nothing more, and that he had declined to make a formal final statement regarding the murder or his supposed innocence. However APB news claimed they had a source that was present inside the execution chamber when Garrett was led in, one who insisted that he had spontaneously said “I'd like to thank my family for loving me and taking care of me. The rest of the world can kiss my ass”.
The indecent assault and murder of a woman of God is perhaps one of the most obscene and disturbing crimes we can possibly encounter. But what is most disturbing about the case of Johnny Frank Garrett is that he might actually have been innocent of the crime, despite the overwhelming evidence against him. Twenty two years after jurors convicted him, and twelve years after Garrett was executed for the slaying, an Amarillo attorney attempted to prove his innocence. “No reasonable mind would believe otherwise”, Jesse Quackenbush said. “The old and newly discovered evidence of Johnny Frank Garrett's innocence is so compelling it will cause even the most bloodthirsty proponents of the death penalty to shake their heads in doubt”. Quackenbush noted in a letter to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles that there were links between Sister Tadea’s slaying and that of seventy seven year old Narnie Box Bryson, who as killed was just three months before Sister Tadea in the same part of town, and in a very similar manner. The similarities were so striking that the district attorney at the time was convinced the same man killed both women.
A man by the name of Leoncio Perez Rueda remains in jail in Bryson's slaying, and Quackenbush was quick to point out that during a recent interview, Rueda described assaulting and beating a nun on Halloween night in 1981.
But given the finality of the death penalty, we might never find out the truth behind Sister’s Tadea’s slaying, and we can only assume that given the mountain of evidence against Garrett, that he was in fact guilty of the crime. But it still begs the question, which is more horrifying, the murder of a nun, or the fact that we may never get to know what really happened that night? What’s clear is that the only two people who really know are the poor nun that was murdered, and the vicious, predatory monster that took her life.

2020.10.21 01:45 storkinsj Last Pass Credit Monitoring

Hi folks,I have been getting LP Credit monitoring alerts. I decided to subscribe (using a credit card that will expire soon just in case I have trouble cancelling).
It seems to be working. I looked through the changes and they were correct. Due to some criminal activity at my house, I actually did a credit lock on all 3 U.S. Credit reporting agencies to prevent privacy theft. The alerts I saw were related to someone (looks like my own bank maybe) doing a "soft pull" to Equifax . The other ones corresponded to a credit card I added (I did this) and other changes such as paying off my second mortgage.
It may seem a little shifty to tell you "something happened" on your credit without telling you what it was. However, I can verify that something interesting happened that I would want to know about that may not have showed up on my free credit reports. Whether it's worth the $200 a year or whatever it is may be largely related to your financial situation, but for me it is necessary. FYI here's what I saw:

Credit Alert from Equifax : Blocked Inquiry

Questions? Need advice?

Flag this alert and call us. We’re available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Alert Details

What does it mean?

We notify you if an inquiry on your Equifax credit report was blocked because your file is locked or frozen.

What should I do?

If you're applying for credit and recognize the activity, you will need to unlock or unfreeze your Equifax credit report to allow for a credit inquiry. If you did not initiate the activity, the alert could signal potential fraud. We recommend reviewing your credit report and score to look for unexpected changes. Call us if you see activity you don’t recognize.

2020.10.21 01:10 franxhotsauce Blank Checks For Good

Hi Blankies!
Past and future guest David Reese has a podcast called "Election Profit Makers" where he and his #two friends goof on politics and election bettings. Recently, they began raising money for voting rights agencies by inviting their listeners to send them receipts of donations they made to such organizations in exchange for the hosts "banning" someone from listening to the podcast. It picked up a lot of steam and has to date raised >$22K for voting rights groups.
It's been pretty inspiring to see what that community has done, and got me thinking about what causes the Blank Check community could get behind. The podcast has such a spirit of enthusiasm and kindness to it, I bet this community could do a lot of good if there was a cause that ignited shared passions.
Do you think there's any natural recipient/cause for a Blankie donation drive? The first thing that came to mind is Vital Ground. Bart The Bear, the world's biggest film star and, more to the point, star of the BTTF 3 episode, was the spokesperson for this non-profit land trust. Understandably, though, grizzly bear preservation isn't on the top of the list of causes for most folks in 2020. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear your ideas and hope the blank check crew consider how their listeners could be motivated to give to make 2020 less terrible for some people and/or bears.

2020.10.20 22:51 evanh6152 Fuck Newegg

Bought a pre-built PC a couple weeks ago because I haven't had a PC in years and it was a decent sale price that I didn't think I could beat to get the items individually, cost a little over $900. It's not a lot, but during these times, it's a lot for me.
On the delivery date, I'd been working from home all day with my front door wide open eagerly anticipating my computer so I could power it up and start installing the games and software I wanted when I get a notification that it's been delivered and signed for. I had not signed for anything.
The signature shown on OnTrak has completely different initials so I call their customer service line to see if the driver dropped it off at the wrong address, the operator pages the driver then gets back on the line and basically tells me I'm shit out of luck and company policy is to contact Newegg.
Okaaaaaay, I'm sure this will be a simple process. I submit my claim and the confirmation message that I need to wait 7- 10 days and will be updated via email. 3 days later and I haven't heard anything, I use their chat service to see what's up. There is no claim on file. The chat agent walks me through getting one submitted while we're online together. Days later, I get an email that they need my police report to move forward because the value was over $500.
1) I never knew I needed to file a police report
2) What crime has been committed here? Aside from OnTrac, their shipping service, being notoriously awful with accusations of theft and packages that don't get delivered?
I call again. The agent responds that I need to file a report and tell them that the package was lost at my front door, despite me literally sitting 5 feet away from my open front door all day long. I work for a public agency, my dad is a cop, it doesn't sit right with me wasting taxpayer dollars to file a police report that will never be addressed for a "crime" that never happened because Newegg is incompetent.
This has yet to be resolved.
This was my first time ordering from Newegg, and I have never had a worse experience ordering anything online, ever. I'm still sitting here out $900 while some lucky San Diego resident is enjoying his free PC. I initially just wanted the item re-shipped through a different carrier. Now I don't even want the PC and want my money back.

2020.10.20 22:17 stonkswithfinny [MN] Supervisor made no coverage plans for my work duties. Returned from FMLA to a huge mess. Is this legal?

Hi there, made a throwaway account to keep things as anonymous as possible due to the dynamics of my workplace. My supervisor and I tend to butt heads on work related items.
I work as a social worker for a county agency in Minnesota and just returned to work following a month off as my wife and I welcomed our first child to the world.
Unfortunately I returned to work to find a completely full voicemail and 400+ emails. Long story short- my supervisor made no plans for coverage of job related duties. I manage a caseload of 55 people and am responsible for coordinating services and supports to help them live as independently as possible. I let my employer and HR know that I would be taking leave back in March to get the ball rolling, and to ensure there would be no issues or gaps in service to my clients. But that didn’t happen.
This isn’t the first time my supervisor has not planned caseload coverage for those on leave. Two of my coworkers have also gone on maternity/paternity leave this year and there weren’t plans for coverage. When asked in staff meetings surrounding case coverage my supervisor shared that the employee (on leave) email’s would be forwarded to him and he’d delegate from there.
Today is my first day back and I’ve begun diving into hundreds of emails from frustrated providers and clients... at the same time my supervisor is forwarding my own emails received to me, dated during my leave and instructing me to complete the tasks ASAP.
Is this legal? It feels like I am being punished/harassed with extra work that SHOULD have been handled while I was on my leave.
TL/DR- Supervisor made no plans for time sensitive, crucial work task coverage while I was on paternity leave. Now sending me tasks dated during my leave to complete.

2020.10.20 22:06 PneumaticPterosaur Is Noxkraya Arena is the best designed landmark so far?

Noxkraya Arena is the only landmark that allows both players to have agency in how the landmark effects the game. The Arena does not use any RNG but directly tells both players what it will do, two things will fight, and something will probably die. By allowing the players the ability to out maneuver each other on the board, Noxkraya Arena is the only landmark that allows the opponent to not only negate it's effects, but to, in a few situation come out ahead, if they are skilled enough.
In contrast to The Arena, we have landmarks like The University of Piltover and The Howling Abyss. Pretty much everyone can agree that the University of Piltover is a flawed card, I don't need to explain that, but I believe that the Howling Abyss also has some of the same flaws, the only difference is that it is still good enough to see some niche play. The Howling Abyss is fun, I've had a great time playing with it, I will continue to play with it, but once it hits the board, if my opponent doesn't have landmark removal I win, the end. I don't need to make meaningful choices about playing or holding answers and Champions, as I will simply have more answers and threats then the opponent. I will eventually win, it's just a matter of time. I don't need to think, and the opponents choices no longer matter, as I will simply make 1 for 1 trades and win due to card advantage. Once Howling abyss hits the field the only choice that matters is if you added landmark removal to your deck. This is the same reason as to why Piltover feels flawed to me. Once University of Piltover enters the board, I just get to play what the game wants me to play, and the opponent gets to play solitaire where they play what they want and hope that the University of Piltover player wasn't given an answer for what they did. Both landmarks remove agency from players, their actions start to mean less once the landmarks hit the board.
The Slaughter Docks is an interesting landmark that plays into the theme of toss/deep deck as a deck that is week early game, but will completely take over the game in the late game with massive units. I love deep decks, I believe that they create a late game deck that is separate from a pure control deck, which is valuable. The Slaughter Docks allows the deep deck to really push it's late game at the cost of early game, it fits the theme of the deck. While the Docks still uses RNG to determine it's summoned sea monster, it will almost always be bigger than what the opponent will have in play, so I don't believe that that is too much of a problem. I however see a problem with the fact that the deck that plays Slaughter Docks has one primary window to overpower it, the short early game. Due to the fact that The Slaughter Docks is a landmark, there is almost no removal for it, and at the literal best, removing it will be mana neutral, effectively wasting one of the few precious turns you have before the deck goes deep to nullify both players turns, bringing the deep deck closer to it's desired late game. That is all also ignoring the fact that most of the available landmark removal is also hard unit removal, meaning that it feels wasteful to use it on what may be 7/7 at a later date when you know that the opponent will be playing a 10/8, or a 13/13 tough unit that you could remove. The slaughter docks design as a landmark makes it disadvantageous for the opponent to interact with, meaning that it is effectively wasteful to try and play around it or to counter it when you could be ignoring it and trying to push damage to face. The Slaughter Docks doesn't add meaningful choices to the board when it's played, it does nothing in the most interactive way.
I don't have too much to say about Vaults Of Helia, it asks the opponent if they have interaction to destroy your highest cost unit or the landmark, and if you don't they get to get a bunch of value. it's fun to play with, but I think that most of that fun comes from the deck building. With the Vaults you choose what your line of units is going to be and what that will look like. There is an argument that the Vaults are the best designed Landmark because they apply an interesting deckbuilding constraint and questions associated with them. What is the best chain of units you can find? are you willing to have two different units on one mana cost at the expense of consistency? how many of the same unit do you want to have in the deck at risk of breaking the chain if you draw them? these are questions that matter before the battle, but when inside the fight they don't matter at all. instead it becomes a question of how do I protect the highest costed unit I have, or how do I kill their highest costed unit. The Vault is a fun change of pace and an interesting deck, but it doesn't add many interesting questions for the opponent.
Now, the Star Spring in the room, the one "actually good" landmark. The Star Spring offers both a good effect, an alternate win condition, and a mana cost that makes it more efficient to play then remove. The Star Spring is good, it does a lot, but when it enters play, I feel as though the game grinds to a sudden halt. The Star Spring stops combat, as anything other then complete destruction of the Springs player's units brings them closer to victory. I don't want to block the Springs players units and damage them, I'll take damage and they wont, they don't get punished for risky moves, as one of the core mechanics of this game, damage, is flipped from a negative to a positive for them. But what's worse then not being able to use your small units to eventually trade, is not being able to use large units to trade, as you are just one combat trick from giving them from 4 to 10 more health to heal up and win with. I play a lot of hard control and most of my kill spells are damage based, but I will never use Grasp Of The Undying on a low HP soraka, because they will use Guiding Touch and I'll not only lose a card but further their game plan. I have found that when playing against The Star Spring I will just not play anything, I don't want to play something that will be eaten by Kench or traded into, and I don't want to play any removal that isn't hard removal, as it will be countered by healing. The only counter play to Star spring is bring landmark removal and wait to draw it, or don't play the game. My argument here is also a bit of a rant about Kench and Soraka, but they were made with each other in mind, so I hope that most of the arguments come though.
Lastly, the best Landmark so far Noxkraya Arena. Noxkraya is not a dead play like the Slaughter Docks, The Howling Abyss, or The University of Piltover, but is instead a removal spell the turn it comes down, as it will usually be played once the opponent is mostly out of plays for the turn. It doesn't feel bad to play the Arena, but it is also not an unconditional removal spell, it needs you to have a board and even then it will cost some HP on your strongest unit. After the first turn though, that's when the arena becomes fun. When both players have open mana and the arena is on the board combat becomes complex and nuanced, a combat trick that works till the end of the round is now a chance at a two for one if you can get a good trade in combat then have that be your strongest or weakest unit at the end of turn. with the arena Frostbite becomes a death mark on a unit, and while it wont usually go two for one, it's still fair and feels synergistic. With self damaging cards you can change what unit is attacking, you can move the goal post for your opponent and turn simple cards into absolute blowouts. Against the arena you are asked new and interesting questions, do you want to play a bunch of fodder to keep your large units on the field, or do you want one unit that you can buff so that you can kill your opponents strongest unit, flipping the landmark on it's head. with the arena combat is no longer a simple calculation, but instead you have to think about what your units will end up as, can your strongest unit take a shot from both this unit it wants to block and the enemies weakest unit? Does it need to? The Noxkrayan Arena adds meaningful and complex decision making for both sides, and allows counter play from the opponent while still engaging with the basics of the game. Oh, and all of those decisions don't need Landmark removal. You dont need to remove the landmark to stop it from taking over the game, you can use resources that you normally have to counter it's effects. The game isn't over for you when you opponent plays the Arena if you don't have a way to get rid of it, instead it's only just beginning. The Arena feels like the perfect way to do a landmark, an almost symmetrical effect that favors the player that played it a little bit more. The Arena gives chances to play with synergy and is synergistic with different deck types, it loves frostbite and big beefy units; but is just as happy with Dragons, self damage units, and units that have effects on a strike. The Arena gives a slight edge to it's owner by having the strongest unit fight the weakest, but beyond that it is up to the deck builder to create a deck that thrives off of the synergies it provides, and to do that better then the opponent. The Noxkrayan Arena provides both players interesting choices and meaningful complexity that changes how the players look at the game and the resources they have access to. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
TLDR: Noxkrayan Arena allows both players to play the game after it comes down onto the board. It has a strong effect, but instead of blanking the cards that the opponent plays or has in hand, it recontextualizes them to encourage counter play and more thought in combat. Noxkrayan arena is the one landmark that can be beaten and interacted with when you don't have landmark removal.

2020.10.20 21:51 Rofel_Wodring The root cause as to why there are so many bad external recruiters.

I'm not a recruiter, never was. However, I worked, or at least if this start date holds, used to work in B2B sales and to be absolutely fair to recruiters -- if my intuition is correct, they're at the vanguard of a trend that is making sales as a whole a living nightmare: cranking up the activity volume to catch more minnows.
A lot (certainly not all, but definitely a supermajority) of bullshit with recruiting occurs because some manager or director is breathing down their team's neck, telling them to GET MORE WINS. Of course, getting more wins takes time and is a trailing indicator, so they look at recruiter activity. More dials, more emails, more interviews, more clients, more more more! To make up for this increase in activity something has to give, especially because a large part of recruiting doesn't just boil down to 'buckle down over the phone with a script' even though any manager is going to be looking at, day to day, dials and e-mails and other forms of activity.
So you've got a recruiting agency that's beating up its employees for MORE DIALS, MORE CANDIDATES, MORE WINS during a period of time in which downward pressure on job openings and wages is unprecedented and, well. You get a lot of the nonsense you see in this thread.

2020.10.20 21:47 LilKuch21 Weird Timeline - Rejected from Initial Position but Offered Another

After months of looking/applying I finally landed a job as an attorney at a small agency. Timeline is pretty unique since I was initially not hired for the PD I applied to due to a lack of specialized experience. Instead, the supervisor (who's been really helpful and transparent) with direct hire authority opened up a new position one grade lower with the same promotion potential.
36 applications - 15 referrals - 1 interview

Open Date: 6/16/20
Application: 6/29/20
Close Date: 6/29/20
Contacted for Interview: 7/16/20
Referred: 7/24/20
Interview: 7/28/20
Contacted by Supervisor: 8/25/20 - told I would not get position but may have additional opening
Interview 2: 8/28/20
TO for New Position: 9/15/20
Rejection for Initial Position: 9/22/20
FO for New Position: 10/7/20

I decided to write this up since it's a fairly unique timeline compared to what I usually see on this sub and to encourage others to apply to positions even if you're not sure you're 100% qualified. Don't lose faith.

2020.10.20 19:51 Supermama98 Update.

Hey everyone,
I’m sure a lot of people already know what’s going on with our case. Well and update is we also took some safety classes on the side of our regular parenting classes. So as an up to date way we have completed safety classes, parenting classes, drug screens, income coming in, transportation & counseling. ( case plan just stated drug screens & counseling ) . We got our case moved from DHHS to a private religious based foster care agency. Our caseworker is new to the whole thing. We are her first actual family. I have this feeling that she is so new that she is kinda looking for something bad. Today she finally did a home visit & asked questions that I wasn’t used to because the initial CPS worker didn’t ask them. There’s a whole a the top of my bedroom closet & she looked at me and asked was that from a physical altercation ( what ?) I said no I move my room around and not paying attention my 60 pound fan fell from the dresser on to the closet door. Our kids are 2 & 8 month. Our sons crib is in our room( which is a big size) & our daughter has her own room. She asked were we looking for a new home since we only had 2 bedrooms, I said no not right now but we are on the waiting list in our apartment complex to move in a three bedroom when one is available. She stated that we had to try and find a place soon. Now I know there is nothing wrong with room sharing with our infant. He has his own space literally half of our room! Now we go have or adjudication trial next Tuesday & on top of completing our case plan & doing more, we have letters from both parenting instructors on our success & both therapist saying our success and that they deem us mentally fit. We are all hoping that the judge will at least grant them to come home with in home services if needed or dismissal all together. They have been gone 3 months now. Our FC worker stated she doesn’t expect them home until next year sometime but how would she know that if she haven’t even completed the trial? I will post an updated after court next week.

2020.10.20 19:42 Ledinax [Virtual Youtubers] Her Name was Mano Aloe: A Fan Documentary of Hololive's Graduated Succubus

Hello to everyone.
About a week from now, on October 28, the birthday of an idol who graduated 3 months ago will be coming up. For those of you who are new to Virtual Youtubers or Vtubers (streamers that use anime animated avatars through Live2D) and/or Hololive (agency of Virtual YouTubers created by the company Cover Corp), in all likelihood you don’t know who this person is, which is understandable and I encourage you to keep reading. For those who do, I hope that day is one of celebration rather than sadness for all of you. With her birthday coming up, I wanted to give a documentary of the short, but impactful journey of the succubus of Hololive's 5th gen. And while she isn’t officially a part of the group as of today, for many she will always be remembered as the idol who was lost, but never forgotten. Today I’d like to share with you the story of Mano Aloe and her impact on Hololive.
*As a disclaimer, please do not go to any Hololive member streams to discuss this topic, nor start arguing with any of the groups or people mentioned in this post.

The Beginning of Holofive

On August 5th of 2020, 5 new members were announced and declared for the 5th generation of Hololive and would soon be given the nickname “Holofive,” not only because of their status as the 5th generation, but also because they happened to have five members (though most JP generations have that group layout, barring Hololive Gamers and Hololive Gen 0).
【#ほろふぁいぶ】ホロライブ5期がデビュー!!本日よりTwitterにて活動開始!!
🎉Please Give a Warm Welcome to Hololive 5th Generation!🎉 : Hololive
They would subsequently all use Twitter in the days before their debuts, and many flocked to interact with them. It was an unprecedented amount of communication, not only with fans but with their senior coworkers as well. This became a major reason for their sudden boom in popularity before their debuts even started.
Aloe, unfortunately, was a special case. At the time, many remember Kageyama Shien, a member of the 3rd gen of Holostars, as having his Twitter profile locked out and banned for nearly a month the day after his debut, most likely due to the fact that he may have set his age to be 0. Aloe, on the other hand, had been locked out of Twitter the day of her announcement. Cover Corp came out with a statement about it, and Aloe was unfortunately restricted from using Twitter for a couple of days before eventually joining the rest of her crewmates in the festivities.
5th Gen Mano Aloe pulled a Shien on twitter : Hololive
A week later, their debuts would be broadcast every day of the week, with the lineup starting at Yukihana Lamy, followed by Momosuzu Nene, Shishiro Botan, Mano Aloe, and finally, Omaru Polka.
Mano Aloe, the 4th one to debut, is described as this in her bio:
“A headstrong, mischievous succubus-in-training who dreams of becoming the Diva of the Demonic Realm. Can dish it out, but can’t take it. After learning of Hololive from an acquaintance, she decided to come test out her charms in the human realm.”
She was 15 years old when she debuted on August 15, 2020, and was 150 cm. Her birthday is October 28, and she enjoyed watching horror movies, making bento boxes, and singing. She also enjoyed cleaning rooms (besides her own), and had a distaste for bugs of all sorts (including butterflies) as well as a hatred for riddles and studying. Here’s a translation of her slides during her debut.
I translated three slides from Aloe's debut stream : Hololive
On her debut, she sang Koshi Tantan(虎視眈々) as a bold opening that separated herself from the rest of her peers starting off. Many people will remember that she also brandished a vocoder when singing, providing that energetic, autotune-like vibe to the song that many found great to listen to. She also sang the song “Happy Synthesizer (ハッピーシンセサイザ),” as a finisher to her stream, defining herself as an idol who primarily wanted to see herself on the big stage singing for her fans.
One of the quirks of her character design was that one of her horns was smaller than the other; lorewise, it would grow as time went on and she became more mature, and it’s speculated that once she got to her 3d debut, it would be fully grown. Her model also had a position where her tail would hold up her mic like a mic stand, which was dubbed the “akumic,” (Which combines “akuma,” which means devil or demon, and “microphone,” which shortens to mic) and many fanarts made use of that little detail.
sadly we wont see her grow anymore : Hololive

Many might also remember that she was quite open about her clothing and body, going so far as to reveal the panties of her character model that her mother(illustrator) Guchico had drawn up for her on her Twitter (Due to Aloe's Twitter closing down, the tweet in question is unavailable. Since this is official art, I have decided not to post any links here in case this violates any rules, as it is not on the artist's official Twitter either. A quick search for it on Danbooru is the easiest way to find it.) Not only was this in character, but it led to speculation that her personality might have ended up being somewhat similar to Shion’s spoiled brat personality, known as a “kusogaki” by the older Hololive members.
[Kiryu Coco] After 3 months of 5th gen [Aki Rosenthal, Yuzuki Choco, Amane Kanata, Hololive Eng Sub]
After each of the 5th gen’s streams, all of the members who debuted would talk with each other afterwards to chat and interact with the others. Some may remember the cute songs that Momosuzu Nene would sing for each member once they debuted. (Lamy wa Fuwafuwa, La-Lion, Ma! Ma-Ma-Ma-Mano!, etc.) Holofive seemed to be a rousing success. Until disaster struck just a day later.

The Apology and the Beginning of Skepticism

On August 17, 2020, a stream popped up on Aloe’s YouTube channel titled “大事なお知らせ,” which roughly translated to “Important Announcement.” It is privated on her channel as of right now. Cover Corp nor Hololive issued any statement about the stream or anything pertaining to Aloe before it was made, so many were unaware of its contents beforehand, including Reddit:
Aloe important announcment in 15 minutes. : Hololive
The stream itself was around six minutes. In it, Aloe revealed to the audience that she had breached the terms of her contract with Cover Corp by accident. According to her, a Live 2D (L2D) broadcast of her testing her model out was dug up and found out by the public that happened during May of 2020. At the time, Aloe had requested permission from her manager to try out her model on a previously owned account, one that would later expose her private life to a startling degree.
The manager complied with her request and she most likely spent a while trying out the rigging of her model before finishing up. However, neither her nor her manager had actually ended that test, leaving a backdoor for people to find. It was password protected, but someone was able to break in and find it. This would lead to a multitude of doxxing attempts onto the talent. She would further go on to address rumors and the concerning amount of harassment around her.
According to her, many people had used the private information dug up to start harassing a male acquainted with her; it was speculated that the man was her boyfriend, or something of that status, but she addressed that she and him had no current relationship at the time the video was made and had went their separate ways before her debut.
There were also many cases of doxxing and harassment from people. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, doxxing is defined as the action of “search[ing] for and publish[ing] private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the Internet, typically with malicious intent,” according to Oxford Dictionary. The reason why the L2D leak was extremely serious was that it led to her private accounts being found out and spread across the internet.
A video on twitcast of an utaite with an almost identical voice to Aloe’s was found and posted to other websites, and contained information that many Japanese fans considered sensitive and foreboding of Aloe’s ability to ruin Hololive as a company. As a result, information such as her private twitter account, old niconico account, and even landline address were found out. She received many messages from random strangers to her own household from that. It is unknown what was said in these messages or if she even listened to all of them, but the fact of the matter stood that people knew sensitive information, perhaps even up to where she lived. These private details were not brought up in the apology video in question, but it became one of the biggest points of contention surrounding her. If you’d like more information about the twitcast video in question, I created a post on VirtualYoutubers trying to debunk the allegations against her when the surge of hatred started to pile up. I will not link it in case it violates the rule against leaking information about past lives.
After this video, Aloe would be suspended from streaming activities for an entire two weeks, and would not be allowed to communicate with any of her fans, nor her fellow Gen 5 members publicly.
The community was immediately embroiled in discussion and speculation. Many were concerned about her stunted growth as a result of the two week ban from streaming; After all, Gen 5 had been growing at an unparalleled rate, so seeing her having two weeks of streaming denied after her debut was extremely detrimental. Many also threw shade at Cover Corp, Hololive’s parent company, as well as Hololive, and Yagoo, Cover Corp’s CEO.
For context, Hololive had been in a series of unfortunate circumstances regarding their talents that led to public opinions about their ineptitude in handling problems, both internally and externally. Some of them include:
Yozora Mel being harassed and stalked:

The concern about Aloe being harassed and doxxed by random strangers led to a growing concern about how Hololive would handle the situation, and contributed to the negativity surrounding the entire incident. This would, unfortunately, lead to one of the darkest times in Hololive history.

The Two Week Ban and the Divide

What followed was a massive divide between fans, primarily between Japanese and overseas fans. As a result of the language barrier, overseas fans were not able to deal with the situation as quickly as Japanese fans. The lack of translations led to fans taking it into their own hands to try and assess the situation, leading to a lack of understanding of the entire situation. Many of the translations were misleading or flat out wrong too; For example, a lot of users were very confused about her situation since some translations painted the L2D leak as the same incident as the private twitcast video, which was blatantly false. Many who gave out translations were also very opinionated and lacked the entire picture of why Japanese fans were outraged. Some Japanese comments flooded Reddit, with the idea that overseas fans had no idea about the circumstances surrounding Aloe’s incident and implied an idea of unequal standing between Japanese fans and overseas fans. These were, of course, received poorly, and many were quick to realize that these statements were copied and pasted as if coordinated to offend overseas fans or set a precedent. And they were.
It should be noted that many of the people against Aloe fell under the term “anti.” While it’s a universal term, people who are considered antis deliberately take actions against another person or talent with the end goal of ruining, hurting, slandering, or harassing their target, whether it be through death threats, doxxing, or spamming them with negative comments. Their goal in this endeavor was to disguise themselves as “fans” of Hololive and spread disorder and distrust amongst the community. They’d pose as concerned fans who wanted Cover Corp to succeed, and for Aloe to be fired for the “greater good” of the company and the safety of its talents. This would lead to actual fans sharing the same or similar sentiments to this idea, leading to much more backlash against her compared to previous incidents. After all, the idea of an idol leaking the sensitive information of other talents didn't seem too far-fetched. It was a fear that many, unfortunately, fell victim to.
The initial problem that overseas fans gleamed from Japanese comments was that she had been hiding evidence pertaining to having a boyfriend previously, and that the tweets she had put out on her private account were sexual in nature. Two main tweets were discussed:
  1. She had tweeted and joked about a “sashimi dildo;” while I am unsure if there was a picture to accompany it, these are the words many people used to reference the tweet.
  2. Largely paraphrased, but she tweeted out that “When I’m famous, I’ll be able to fuck all of my fans,” or something of that extent.
Now before you judge these tweets, do be aware that these were made nearly four years before she even debuted as Mano Aloe; while Hololive requires you to be a legal adult to work at their agency, it’s been speculated that she was pretty young at the time of those tweets. To paraphrase another reddit user, “dumb teenagers will do dumb teenager things.” It’s also worth mentioning that these tweets usually had the dates cropped out to show them out of context and purposefully frame Aloe in a bad light by those looking to defame her.
This led some Redditors to blame the idol culture in Japan quite heavily, and Japanese fans were generalized to fit this perspective. While this may have been the case for some, it definitely was not the case for all. In fact, the majority of Japanese people criticizing Aloe were fixated more on the twitcast video, which I will talk about shortly. Even then, most Japanese fans wished for her return and for her to simply reflect on her mistake. Many on Reddit felt the need to lash out at Japanese fans and their culture in general, to the extent that some comments started becoming borderline racist.
[Aloe] please don't use current situation as an attempt to generalise JPN fans or sow division : Hololive
The second, and much more serious problem, stemmed from a certain part of the twitcast video. In this video, the girl revealed sensitive information from a talent of another company, specifically addressing the reason for her retirement. She claimed to be an acquaintance of (or acquaintanced with) this person, and stated that they left due to private information being found out and exposed to the public. The problem is that this statement could not be identified as completely true by fans. Many who were familiar with this company and this person remarked that the circumstances surrounding her retirement were quite different from the statement the girl issued, and people began to believe that her statement was likened to a rumor, which many found extremely offensive. They thought that her statement tarnished the name of the character that retired, and that it brought about rumors that were unnecessary in nature. Unfortunately, this sentiment would be lost on the overseas fanbase for a while after the initial news. Even then, many were of the opinion that doxxing and harassing her over such a statement was unjustified. This was the main issue dividing the community: Some fans thought the punishment and treatment from fans were too harsh; Others thought her punishment wasn’t severe enough. And of course, this was exacerbated by the lack of direct communication between both sides. Until she came back, the Hololive community would have to form their own opinions about how to handle the situation.

Support and the Formation of M.A.S.S.

So what did the fans do while they waited for Aloe to return? They showed their support. They made sure to let Aloe know that she had fans who were there to greet her when she came back. They got to work on preparing for her return and spreading positivity throughout the community. Through this ban period, a resurgence of artists shared their reinvigoration for their hobbies as they tried to find a way to show their support for Aloe. People who had editing skills, people who drew, even people who simply wanted to send their thoughts to Aloe flooded the subreddit with heartfelt messages, memes, drawings and other forms of media. People found motivation to pick up old hobbies to show their love for Aloe despite her very short time in Hololive. The entire subreddit, her YouTube channel, and her Twitter account buzzed with life.

From this wave of support for Aloe, a group known as the Mano Aloe Support Squad was formed, a discord server with the goal of showing fan appreciation for Mano Aloe (It would later be renamed the Manotomo Alliance Support Squad). Multiple messages would be posted onto the Hololive subreddit asking people to join their cause, and for the most part it was well-received by the community:
Please help support Mano Aloe! : Hololive
The Mano Aloe Support Squad needs you help! : Hololive
M.A.S.S. had a multitude of goals, but the main idea was to show fan support for Aloe during her two week suspension as to make sure she knew people were waiting for her return. The main form of support was through a group effort to use Aloe’s hashtags to send kind messages and fanart on certain days of the week. This project would be divided based on the timezones of different countries and initiated every day based on the JST timezone. The template usually revolved around sending in a picture of the country you were from, some interesting facts about it, and a kind message to show support for her. Using #魔乃アロエ and #魔の友, Aloe’s Twitter was flooded with warm, caring comments from all around the world in an attempt to show the appreciation fans had for her.
In addition to this, multiple collaborations would be made for when she would return: Small games were made with themes centered around Aloe and her Manotomo’s, the name of which she’d call her fans. Pages and pages of fanart were filled with support for Aloe. Thousands of comments wished the best for her, and that they were waiting for her to come back. Someone even made an entire website dedicated to storing all of these little projects, so I suggest you check it out if you have the time!
Manotomo
Of course, the public support for her wasn’t always a positive influence. It contributed to some of the negatives as well. A couple of days into the ban week, it should be noted that harassment attempts against Aloe had decreased a little. Antis are known to move from target to target once their efforts on one end start becoming fruitless, tiring, or boring, and after a few days of radio silence on her end there didn’t seem to be much going on. There are two notable events, however, that seemed to reignite their efforts to harass Aloe.
The first event was their discovery of the M.A.S.S. server. Through one means or another, they were able to find information about the existence of a group solely dedicated to showing support for Aloe, the exact target they wanted to harass. Whether one had joined the server previously as some sort of insider or through chance, it became clear to them that there was an active overseas group who wanted Aloe back; and that only made their efforts harsher. Once more, they took to Twitter and YouTube to flood Aloe with negative comments and spam, determined to destroy the efforts of those showing support in addition to harassing her.
https://www.reddit.com/Hololive/comments/ik33hb/thank_you_note_to_mass/g3i5y7f/?context=3
The second event was the direct confrontation of fans with antis on 5ch and 2ch (Japanese message boards that are very similar to our version of 4chan). Unfortunately, some overseas fans had gone over to their threads to spam them with angry comments and similar messages on their own turf, which was a terrible idea in hindsight. The point is that fans provoked the hornet’s nest, which led to more and more backlash against Aloe as the week progressed.
While both of these events are debatable in terms of influencing her final outcome, it is a fact that the major outspoken support for Aloe resulted in an equal opposition of hatred and harassment on the opposite side. And unfortunately, as the day of her suspension being lifted got closer and closer, nobody would be able to predict what was about to happen.

Retirement, and Loss

On Monday, August 30, 2020, right when she was about to come out of her two week ban, a statement came out from Cover Corp concerning Aloe’s situation. Due to personal reasons, she would be graduating from Hololive after everything that had happened through a mutual agreement with the company, one that she herself decided upon. She’d later graduate the day after, and her page on the Vtuber wikipedia would eventually be put in the “former members” section:
Important Announcement Regarding Mano Aloe : Hololive
https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/Mano_Aloe
Soon after the news hit, Shishiro Botan, one of the members of 5th gen, came out with an impromptu stream a few minutes after the announcement was made, along with the rest of her genmates. This suggested that this news came as a surprise even to them. All of them reacted differently, but it was clear that all of them were deeply hurt by the news; Lamy and Nene can be heard crying toward the end of their portions of the video. Polka’s serious and deeper voice only added to the gravity of the situation, and Botan took on the role of leading them through the entire stream with a somber tone to her voice. Everything felt like a punch to the gut. The video can be found below. It also has official English subtitles for those who don’t understand Japanese:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCqDv94ZeuA
Meanwhile, antis were celebrating Aloe’s graduation. On Botan’s announcement stream, there were a few Japanese comments that said things like “SHE’S FINALLY GONE!” and “Stop crying, we know those are fake tears,” amongst other insensitive stuff. Originally, there were Reddit posts that screenshotted these comments, but they should be on Botan’s stream if you’re willing to find them unless they’ve been removed and reported. Many reported that the threads full of antis on 2chan and 5chan were vibrant and ecstatic to see that they managed to get one of Hololive’s idols to graduate. But for the Hololive community, many were heartbroken to witness a new idol, one with so much promise and potential, being harassed out of her dream job.
The news was a massive blow to everyone, and in the following weeks fans were overcome with grief and anguish. Morale on the subreddit dropped. Some climbed out of the Hololive rabbit hole from the sheer shock of Aloe retiring. Some became disappointed in Cover for failing to protect Aloe from the harassment. Others took a break from Hololive in general just to get their thoughts in order. A couple tried to stay positive and tough it out, warning people to never forget this incident. It became one of the darkest eras that Hololive has ever gone through.

Understandably, many posts were made discussing the entire situation. As soon as the news hit, the new tab was flooded with posts about Aloe's graduation, and it cluttered the subreddit. It got to the point that any discussion posts outside the announcement thread needed to be deleted to keep the subreddit from devolving into utter chaos. Some fanarts stayed up, but nearly all posts about Aloe with the "Discussion" flair were removed for quite a while after the announcement, and people were asked to relocate to the megathread regarding her graduation for discussion. It should be noted that many were unaware of the grander picture, and only saw the moderators deleting posts related to Aloe, leading many to believe that they were forcefully trying to stifle any attempts at discussing Aloe's graduation. This was remedied quickly, but for the first couple of days many were angry to see Hololive deleting the individual discussion threads for seemingly no reason.

Not only that, but people began to criticize Cover Corp for their inability to protect her from the harassment. As stated, after the slew of mismanagement problems behind the scenes, this became the breaking point for a lot of fans. Cover Corp criticism and hatred spiked immensely, with some people berating and feeling disappointed for how Cover Corp handled the situation.

Thankfully, there were some uplifting moments during these troubling times. Right after the news of Aloe’s retirement became public, Shirakami Fubuki started an impromptu stream of Fall Guys, and many flocked to her to take their mind off of Aloe’s graduation. While she didn’t address the situation directly, the timing and abruptness of the stream made it clear why she decided to stream.

Aloe’s fellow genmates were also quick to show their support for her. Momosuzu Nene in particular was very vocal about her support for Aloe. At the time, there were major concerns with Aloe being depicted in official art or banners tied to Holofive; on the Hololive channel, Aloe’s avatar was no longer shown with the other four members, and the Aloe flair on the Hololive subreddit was legitimately considered for being removed. Nene, however, made her own choice, and decided to remember Aloe in her own special way. If you go onto her Twitter, her banner is a drawing of all the Holofive members, including Aloe. Even during the initial fallout, Nene was insistent on Aloe remaining a member of Holofive, regardless of what happened.

The weeks following her retirement, the subreddit was often filled with bittersweet memes and discussion posts about people’s feelings for Aloe and her graduation. Some people were even so distraught that just looking at the rest of Holofive brought back memories of Aloe. Though since then, her fans have gotten better. Every so often, fanarts of her make their way on this subreddit, and while many were, and are still sad about her retirement, many have also come to terms with it and enjoy the occasional fanarts of her. To us, the Manotomos, she has left her mark on Hololive, even though she is long gone.

The Aftermath and Her Legacy

So what has changed since her retirement? What’s become of Hololive’s 5th generation? What has Hololive done now that they’ve lost one of their idols? The simple answer is that while there are some problems, for the most part they are still going strong. One of the biggest changes that has come from Aloe’s incident is the formation of company measures against doxxing and harassment against their talents, not only from Cover Corp, but Ichikara (Nijisanji’s parent company) as well:
A Statement Regarding Measures Against the Harassment of Hololive Production Talents : Hololive
Ichikara (Nijisanji parent company) has established a team dedicated to "Fighting Libel, Abuse, Defamation, and Offensive Acts against Our Talents" : VirtualYoutubers
Before Aloe’s retirement, both of these companies did not contain any public statements regarding the protection of their talents that were heavily enforced, or seemed to be publicly. However, shortly after Aloe’s retirement, Ichikara came out with their statement seemingly out of nowhere. It’s been speculated that this had been in the works for a while now considering Nijisanji also faced similar harassment months prior to Aloe’s case, but it had been rushed forward in response to Aloe’s situation. Not too far afterwards, Hololive came out with their statement as well, and actually kept their promise; they’ve gone through with multiple C&D’s on channels leaking information from 4chan to YouTube:
"Anti V-Tuber" channels seem to be getting obliterated by Hololive
Hololive just DESTROYED "Anti V-Tuber" YouTube channel by sending Yagoo's Special Forces
Well what about the fanbase? Have they forgotten about Aloe after Hololive EN and everything that’s happened? Well I exist, and this post exists, so there’s that. But in all seriousness, many have not forgotten about Aloe, and continue to remember her to this day. Many continue to wear their Aloe flairs proudly, and others continue to remember Aloe’s influence in Hololive. Many have even used their experience with Aloe’s situation to make the most of Coco and Haachama’s situation by combating antis through reporting and laying low to wait for their idols to come back with great success. I’m typing this in advance, but I assume that her birthday is filled with warm posts from her fans. Hopefully, you’ll be able to send her your best wishes as well if you’d like.

Closing Remarks

This is where her story ends for now. But, the very short memories of her live on in those who were there to witness it. Perhaps in the future, those of us still in Hololive will smile when we remember the succubus that could have been. I hope that once her birthday comes around, you'll be able to join me in wishing her a happy birthday. Whether you were a fan of hers, or are new to Hololive, or just happened to stumble onto this post, I hope I was able to tell her story well.

2020.10.20 19:13 True_A3r0z Her Name was Mano Aloe: A Fan Documentary of Hololive's Graduated Succubus

Hello to everyone.
About a week from now, on October 28, the birthday of an idol who graduated 3 months ago will be coming up. For those of you who are new to this subreddit, in all likelihood you don’t know who this person is, which is understandable and I encourage you to keep reading. For those who do, I hope that day is one of celebration rather than sadness for all of you. With her birthday coming up, I wanted to give a documentary of the short, but impactful journey of the succubus of 5th gen to those who've fallen into the rabbit hole. And while she isn’t officially a part of the group as of today, for many she will always be remembered as the idol who was lost, but never forgotten. Today I’d like to share with you the story of Mano Aloe and her impact on Hololive.
*As a disclaimer, please do not go to any Hololive member streams to discuss this topic. In addition, please do not start arguing with any of the groups or people mentioned in this post.

The Beginning of Holofive

On August 5th of 2020, five new members were announced and declared for the 5th generation of Hololive and would soon be given the nickname “Holofive,” not only because of their status as the 5th generation, but also because they happened to have five members (though most JP generations have that group layout, barring Hololive Gamers and Hololive Gen 0).
#Holofive Mano Aloe ✨✨ #LustfulSubbubus - Hololive

It was password protected, but someone was able to find it and trace it back to her.

  1. She had tweeted and joked about a “sashimi dildo," which was accompanied by a picture of said object.
  2. Largely paraphrased, but she tweeted out that “Is it true that if you become an utaite, it's easy to get laid?,” or something of that extent.

This was remedied quickly, but for the first couple of days many were angry to see Hololive deleting the individual discussion threads for seemingly no reason.
mods deleted my tribute video. it's just getting worse : Hololive

I do, however, want to enlighten some people as to the possible reasons for their actions during this time, since this is very important as to how things were handled. I won’t try to defend or attack their actions, but I do want to make sense of some of the aspects happening during the entire incident.

Aki Rosenthal also came out rather quickly with a singing stream with another vtuber named ASHINO, who played the guitar alongside her.

Her name was Mano Aloe, and don’t you dare forget it.
